The Wounded Healer - New Moon in Aries

Today; April 17th we have a new moon in Aries with a massive stellium of 6 planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Mars, Saturn & Neptune) packed into this one corner of the celestial sky. Ushering in a surge of confidence, empowerment and authenticity that is urging us to move forwards, to make changes, to re-orient and act on something significant in radical ways.

Aside from a super packed Aries, what is also headlining and tightly holding hands with the Sun (representing our identity, consciousness and will) in this auspicious new moon is the planet Chiron; known mythically and astrologically as the “Wounded Healer”.

Chiron fascinates me for numerous reasons, but mostly because when it comes to healing, I am personally invested and motivated in getting as free as possible from all that is not mine, not true for me and not loving. And as such, I’ve been intentionally working with this archetypal, planetary energy since my late 40’s. Side note – I would come to learn that it takes 50 years for Chiron to transit through all 12 signs of the zodiac; hence we have our first Chiron Return when we turn 50 (ie. Chiron returns to the exact placement in your natal chart that it was when you were born).

In Greek Mythology, Chiron was born a Centaur, (half person/half horse) abandoned by his mother, was adopted by the gods of the sky and became a holistic healer and teacher. Chiron is often regarded as the original or core wound, the root cause of suffering and what often feels the most challenging to heal. And, in my opinion, more importantly, it represents the ability and potential of self-healing.

Why I feel so drawn to Chiron’s precise placement in this new moon is the potential for the massive healing and consciousness shifts it represents for us individually and collectively.

Aries is the Self – to know and be the whole Self is the life quest of Aries.

Chiron is a softening energy and seeks to bring the necessary medicine for the wound.

Chiron in Aries represents wounding (and healing) around the self-identity, worthiness, the right to exist/be seen/take up space, our sense of belonging, survival, the inner child, the freedom to be oneself and the inherent need to act, create, advocate and pioneer/lead.

Core wounds often find their roots in early foundational experiences – where we, or our enthusiasm could be regarded as “too much”, “too loud”, “too eager” or “too assertive”. As a result, you may have learned to shrink, to hide, to dim, to abandon your need to act, speak or lead. This may have translated as shame and extremes between passivity and over delivering, chronic people pleasing, repressed anger, unhealthy competitiveness, etc.

To give you an idea of how Aries energy balanced and imbalanced manifests:

Out of Balance – Unhealthy/Unevolved Expressions

React versus Respond

Proving – the need to win and be right

Seeking validation from outside the self

Self-Sabotage (fighting the self)

Separation - Me against You/Us against Them

Powerlessness

Fear of Visibility, Vulnerability, Exposure

Power Dynamics in Relationships

Suppressed/Projected Anger

Not enough-ness

Passive/Aggressive tendencies

Misdirected/impulsive/chaotic action/motivation

Selfishness

Impotency around assertiveness/leading

Toxic masculinity/father wound/emasculated maleness

Feeling insignificant

Imposter Syndrome

Insecurity/Guilt around goals or success (self-sabotage/comparison)

Inflammation

Weak Boundaries

Burnout/Overwhelm/Chronic Fatigue

Identity Crisis

Ego Dominates/Bully/Controlling others

In Balance – Healthy/Evolved Expressions

Us/We/Collaboration/Values all/Better Together

Self-Reflection/Self-Awareness

Understanding of one’s Wholeness

Innate sense of Belonging

Worthiness

Sharing/Shining/Being Seen

Self-Validation/Affirmation

Accountability of ones Needs

Respond versus React

Advocacy/Activism

Self-Sovereignty

Softness as Strength

Confidence

Truth/Authenticity

Ability to see oneself objectively versus subjectively

Discernment/Boundaries

Being of Service/Greater Good

Compassionate Leadership on Purpose

Chiron has been transiting through the sign of Aries since April 2018 and will be finished in April 2027. This new moon may be reflecting the ways in which you’ve reconciled, healed, and evolved inner child healing, trauma, de-conditioning patterns, breaking ancestral chains. It can also be highlighting where the attention, tending and care is needed. One is not “better” than the other. We can only heal and change what we are aware of. Awareness is 50% of transformation.

Locating, acknowledging, tending, and healing ourselves through self-reflection, awareness and empowerment is to work with Chiron as an ally and a radical, truly life-changing act of personal power and self-love.

Some helpful ideas to shift from unhealthy to balanced Aries energy is the courage to truly face oneself. To process through healthy outlets such as self-enquiry, journaling, therapy, physical exercise, martial arts, dance, creative expression. Directing the passion and fire of Aries into grounded, aligned endeavors, projects etc.

“To know the Self, is the truest form of friendship”

Aries asks …

Who am I?

Who am I not?

What is upset teaching me?

What can I learn from impulsivity?

How can I give myself validation and affirmation?

How can I better care for my body and stress?

What do healthy boundaries look like?

What are my intrinsic needs/desires/dreams and aspirations?

What is the difference between gratification and fulfillment?

How can I practice detachment, neutrality, acceptance?

What does doing my best look like?

How can I redefine strength?

What kind of a leader do I want to be?

Chiron opens the door to reparenting the heart, encouraging and supporting authentic self-expression, equality and equilibrium in relationships, enjoyment of success of self and others without fear or guilt.

Mantra for the Moon

A gentle Rx. to navigate this new moon and these times might be to place one hand on your heart and one hand on your sacral chakra (naval area/sense of self) and remind yourself -

“I belong”

“I am an important and valued member of the collective family”

“I am my own safe space”

“I give myself what I need”

“I ground my actions in authenticity and purpose”

“I lead with compassion and kindness”

“I love myself no matter what”.

Sending big love to the resets, the shifts and new chapters anchored in healing, harmony, joy, and love.
